On Sunday, August 18, 2019 at 0639 hours Mantua Township Fire District along with Deptford Fire Department were dispatched to Route 55 Northbound in the area of the 57 Mile Marker for a motor vehicle crash. Your Mantua Firefighters were staffed with a crew of four personnel and responded immediately. Chief 2201 arrived and found a vehicle overturned in the woods on fire. Rescue 2211 arrived as the first due company and immediately went into service with with a hand line to extinguish the active fire, while assisting the injured male from the crash.
Captain 2202 responded to the 57.6 Mile Marker, where the second vehicle was located and there were three occupants complaining of injuries. Captain 2202 was assisted by Deptford Engine 943 at that assignment. Once the fire was brought under control and the patient care was turned over to Deptford EMS, Mantua Fire Units were released from the highway by New Jersey State Police.
