On Thursday, January 9, 2020 at 1451 hours the Mantua Township Fire District was dispatched to 21 Woodstream Court for a reported dwelling fire. Rescue Engine 2211 responded with three personnel, as well as, Deputy 2202. Deputy 2202 arrived and reported a 2 1/2 story town home in the middle of the row with smoke showing from all divisions and requested the all hands assignment dispatched.
Rescue Engine 2211 arrived and stretched a 200′ 1 3/4″ hand line into the front door of 21 Woodstream Court, where they were faced with light smoke on the first floor, and an active fire in the master bedroom of the second floor. Chief 2201 arrived on scene and assumed Command as “2200.” Engine Company 2212 arrived as the second due company and secured a water source on Mt. Royal Road in the area of Woodstream Court. The crew from 2212 deployed the 300′ 1 3/4″ hand line off of Rescue Engine 2211 to the rear of the complex to attack any active fire in the rear. Squad Company 2618 secured their own water source and deployed a 400′ hand line to the “C” Division to protect the exposures. Ladder 2316 arrived and assumed truck company operations in Division “A.” The ladder was deployed to the roof of 21 Woodstream Court, as well as, 19 Woodstream Court and a ventilation hole was cut into the roof of 19 Woodstream Court.
Crew from 1311 and 2816 deployed dry hand lines into 19 Woodstream Court and 23 Woodstream Court, which were adjoining residences. Forced entry was required to gain access to 23 Woodstream Court, where a smoke condition was found; however, there was no active fire in either adjoining residence. Inspection holes were placed into the ceilings of both 19 and 23 Woodstream Court to the adjoining walls to assure that the fire had not spread to the dwellings. The attic of 19 Woodstream Court did sustain damage; however, all active fire was stopped prior to exposure.
The bulk of the fire was contained to the rear bedroom and roof of 21 Woodstream Court. While operating on scene, crews forced open four windows and a door to 21 Woodstream Court. There was a floor collapse in the rear bedroom of the main fire floor, which was taped off by the safety officer and all firefighters on scene were advised of the collapse.
Once the fire was under control, the scene was turned over to Mantua Township Fire Marshal Anthony N. Lamana for investigation and remains under investigation by MTFD FMO.
