On Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at 1621 hours members of the Mantua Township Fire District and Pitman Fire Company No. 1 were dispatched to 150 Bridgeton Pike for a reported dwelling fire. Squad Company 2211 was on the street with a staffing of 3 personnel and arrived in less than one minute reported heavy smoke and fire showing from Division C of the dwelling. Squad Company 2211 immediately went into service with a single 1 3/4″ hand line and found the seat of the fire in the kitchen area. 2211’s operator hand jacked 300 foot of 5″ and had a cold water line established.
Command was established by Captain FM 22, who reported a 3 story duplex with smoke showing with one line in service. Command reported the fire knocked down prior to the arrival of the second due company. Engine Company 2212 and Crews from District 28 performed ventilation and opened the roof above the kitchen area.
Once the fire was knocked down, crews checked for extension and confirmed that the fire was contained to the room of origin. Companies utilized mechanical ventilation to evacuate the smoke and were able to salvage all personal belongings of the homeowner. Once salvage and overhaul of the fire floor was completed the scene was turned over to FM 22 for investigation. The fire remains under investigation by the Mantua Township Fire Marshal’s Office.
