On Friday, October 7, 2016 at 0649 hours members of the Mantua Township Fire District and Deptford Fire Department were dispatched to Route 55 Northbound at the 55.2 Mile marked for a motor vehicle crash with reported people trapped. Squad Company 2211 and Quint 946 responded immediately followed by Engine 2212 with a total staffing of 16 personnel. Chief 2201 arrived and advised of a minivan on its side with a male pinned between the roof and the roadway.
Squad Company 2211 and Quint 946 were advised to go into service upon arrival to remove the roof from the vehicle and remove the male patient. Once units were on scene, the vehicle was safely stabilized and the roof was removed around the male patient. Once the roof was removed the male was safely extricated and turned over to Gloucester County EMS for transport to Cooper Trauma Center. Crews also operated approximately 2/10’s of a mile north of the accident scene with a vehicle into the woods and a male complaining of an injury. That scene was handled by Engine 2213 and BLS 995. Companies were then released by NJSP.
