Friday, June 22, 2012 - On Friday, June 22, 2012 members of the Mantua Township Fire District were dispatched to 710 Bridgeton Pike for a reported Dwelling Fire. Captain 2203 and Engine Comany 22-13 responded immediately and were advised by Gloucester County Communications that the caller was reporting a gas grill on fire on the deck, which was attached to the dwelling. At that time Captain 2203 requested Quint 28-16 be dispatched due to the severity of the incident. Shortly after the request Chief 2201 arrived and reported smoke showing from the rear of the dwelling, and that the fire had extended to the exterior wall in the rear of the residence.
Engine Company 22-13 was ordered to stretch a single 1 3/4" handline to the rear of the dwelling to extinguish the fire. Crews made a quick knock on the fire stopping any further spread into the structure. Once the fire was knocked down, crews ventilated, overhauled and performed a systematic search of the remainder of the dwelling with thermal imaging, which revealed negative results.
Units were released from the scene within one hour, and the fire is under investigation by the Mantua Township Fire Marshal's Office.
Units on location: Chief 2201, Captain 2203, Engines 22-13, 22-12, 22-11, Quint 28-16 and Tender 22-14.
