Friday, February 17, 2012 - Recently Lt. Craft and I have received my turnout gear, which was damaged during the fire on Monroe Avenue on February 7, 2012. I have attached pictures of my damaged turnout gear, which held up to the conditons that quickly deterioted while attempting to rescue a female from the residence. You will see from the pictures that the heat was so severe; however Lt. Craft and I only received non life threatening injuries.
After looking at these pictures I hope every firefighter will make sure that they are properly equipped prior to entering any fire. This means that Full PPE, Hoods, and SCBA are required to ensure that you do not suffer burns or injuries in any way. Lt. Craft and I are alive today because of our Morning Pride Turnout Gear as well as Scott SCBAs. Hopefully every firefighter understands that and learns from our incident.
Thank you and stay safe,
Brian Hauss, District Chief
