On Monday, November 21, 2016 at 1157 hours members of the Mantua Township Fire District and Pitman Fire Company No. 1 were dispatched to the rear of 678 Main Street for a reported structure fire. Chief 2201 responded immediately and reported a column of smoke visible. Upon the arrival of the Chief, a detached make-shift shed was found to be fully involved in fire.
Squad Company 2211 responded within seconds with a staffed crew of 4 personnel. The company was ordered to pull onto the propert and stretch a single 1 3/4″ hand line to the rear of the property to attack the active fire. Engine 1311 and Quint 516 were requested for assistance and Engines 2212 and 2213 were tasked with water supply to the scene.
The fire was quickly placed under control utilizing only one line and 2500 gallons of water. The scene was then turned over to FI 2204 for investigation and the fire remains under investigation by the Mantua Township Fire Marshals Office. At that time the scene was turned back over to the homeowner and the company was released without incident.
