Saturday, January 31, 2015 – On Saturday, January 31, 2015 at approximately 0215 hours members of the Wenonah Fire Company were dispatched to 300 W Cherry Street for a reported Dwelling Fire. Chief 13-101 responded and was advised that police were on location reporting a working fire. Engine Company 2213 staffed with an overnight duty crew responded quickly and arrived as the third due company. Upon arrival Engine Company 1312 found heavy fire conditions in the rear of the residence and basement. Crews stretched two 1 3/4″ hand lines to attack the exterior and interior fires.
Crew from Engine Company 2213 was split to assist with interior operations as well as roof operations. Crews were faced with heavy fire conditions in the basement of the dwelling, in which one Wenonah Fire Fighter had to be removed due to burns. Once the fire in the basement was brought under control crews were able to quickly bring the remainder of the fire under control. Crew from Engine Company 2213 then assisted members on scene with significant overhaul and salvage of the residence, until released by command.
Members of Wenonah Fire Company and other mutual aide companies remained on location for most of the morning mopping up hot spots and salvaging the remainder of the dwelling. The fire remains under investigation by the Wenonah Fire Marshal’s Office and Gloucester County Fire Marshal’s Office. No further action taken.
