On Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 1755 hours members of the Mantua Township Fire District were dispatched to Bridgeton Pike and Phoenix Avenue for a reported multi-vehicle MVC with entrapment. Chief 2201 arrived on scene and confirmed a five car MVC with one female operator pinned in a white Lexus. Crews were ordered to stabilize the vehicle, perform a door removal and dash displacement to remove the trapped occupant.
Squad Companies 2211 and 2218 arrived simultaneously and carried out the orders of command. Crews were able to successfully extricate the female in four minutes and she was turned over to Gloucester County EMS for transport to Cooper Trauma Center in critical condition. Crews then assisted EMS with patient assessment of the victims of the other four vehicles. Once all patient care was turned over to GCEMS, the company remained on scene assisting Mantua Township Police with lighting for their crash investigation unit. Once the scene was investigated, crews performed highway hazard control until released by Mantua Township Police.
