On Monday, May 22, 2017 at 0726 hours members of the Mantua Township Fire District and Harrison Township Fire District were dispatched to Route 55 Northbound in the area of Mile Marker 53.0 for a reported motor vehicle crash with entraptment. Chief 2201 arrived on scene to find a single vehicle MVC, with the driver still pinned.
Once they were able to navigate heavy traffic in the northbound lanes, Rescue 2318 and Squad 2211 arrived simultaneously and went into service. Crews utilized equipment from Rescue 2318 to stablize the vehicle, and removed the entire driver’s side of the vehicle with spreaders and cutters to free the hurt operator. Once the driver was removed, she was turned over to Gloucester County EMS for transport to Cooper Medical Center for evaluation. Rescue 2318 was then released due to another priority assignment in their local, and Squad 2211 stood by as a blocker until the vehicle was removed from the roadway. Once the vehicle was removed, all companies were released by NJSP.
