On Thursday, November 15, 2018 at 1143 hours members of the Mantua Township Fire District, Harrison Township Fire District and Glassboro Fire Department were dispatched to Route 55 Northbound in the area of mile marker 49.6 for a commercial motor vehicle crash with entraptment. Squad 2618 arrived and found a dump truck overturned into the woods with the operator trapped. Squad Company 2218 and Rescue Company 2318 arrived and began assisting Squad 2618’s crew with stabilization and extrication. Crews utilized hydraulic equipment off of all three units to remove the roof of the vehicle to extricate the trapped male.
Once the roof was removed and folded down the male was removed from the vehicle and turned over to Gloucester County EMS for transport to Cooper Trauma Center in critical condition. The highway remained shut down for an extended period of time while the New Jersey State Police conducted their investigation and DEP cleaned the large spill in the area. Once the extrication was completed Harrison and Mantua companies were released by command.
