On Sunday, October 22, 2017 at 0346 hours members of the Mantua Township Fire District and Ewan Fire Company were dispatched to State Highway Route 55 for a Motor Vehicle Crash with ejection and fire. Squad Company 2218 responded in less than one minute with an in house duty crew, followed closely by Engine Company 2212. Squad Company 2218 and Captain 2202 arrived and confirmed a vehicle well involved in the center median. Lt 2204 located a second vehicle overturned on the northbound shoulder with the male occupant ejected on the side of the road.
Squad Company 2218’s crew split for fire suppression and basic life support and began caring for the occupant. The fire was quickly brought under control and patient care was turned over to Gloucester County EMS upon their arrival. One male occupant was transported to Cooper Trauma Center while the other to Bellmawr. Crews remainded on scene performing highway hazard control and confinement, as well as, traffic control until released by New Jersey State Police. The crash remains under investigation by the NJSP. No further action taken.
