On Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 0740 hours members of the Mantua Township Fire District were dispatched to 713 N Broad St for a reported Dwelling Fire. While en route, companies were advised that GCEMS BLS 34 was on scene confirming a working fire. FM 5 arrived on scene, confirmed the report and ordered Engine Company 511 to deploy a 1 3/4″ hand line to locate the seat of the fire. Squad Company 2211 responded immediately with a total staffing of eight personnel and were detailed to assist with a search upon arrival. Captain 2203 assisted crews from Engine 511 and Quint 516 with a primary search, where they located an elderly male in the second floor bedroom. The male victim was quickly extricated from the residence and turned over to GCEMS for transport to Inspira Medical Center Woodbury, where he was then pronounced deceased.
Crews then assisted with salvage and overhaul of the dwelling, until released by command. The Fire is currently under Investigation by the Gloucester County Fire Marshal’s, Woodbury City Fire Marshal’s Office and the Gloucester County Prosecutors Office.
