Wednesday, December 24, 2014 – On Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at 1517 hours members of the Mantua Township Fire District and Pitman Fire Company No. 1 were dispatched to 75 Owens Lane for a reported dwelling fire. Engine Company 2212 and Squad Company 2218 responded immediately with a combined crew of ten personnel and while en route Lt. 2205 arrived on location reported heavy smoke showing from the basement. Chief 2201 arrived and reported an active fire in the basement and advised Engine 2212 to lay into the scene and deploy a single 1 3/4″ handline into the basement.
Engine Company 2212 and Squad Company 2218’s crews found an active fire in the basement, which was quickly extinguished. Once the fire was under control crews from Quint 2816 and Engine Company 2213 handled utilities and performed natural ventilation in the dwelling. Once the residence was ventilated, crews were able to salvage the dwelling with mininmal damage and the scene was turned over to FM 22 for investigation. The fire is currently under investigation by the Mantua Township Fire Marshal’s Office.
