On Friday, August 25, 2017 at 1830 hours members of the Mantua Township Fire District and Pitman Fire Company No. 1 were dispatched to the area of 495 Bridgeton Pike for a reported structure fire. Captain 2202 responded immediately and was advised that EM 2801 was on scene with a vacant structure in the wooded area off of Bridgeton Pike was well involved with fire. He was also advised that the actor had been detained requesting immediate police assistance at the Heritage’s Parking Lot.
Squad Company 2211 and Tender 2214 responded simultaneously in less than one minute, staffed with an in house duty crew. Captain 2202 arrived and confirmed the report requesting 2211 lead off with an 1 3/4″ hand line to the deep seated fire. Squad Company 1311 arrived 3rd due and obtained a water supply at Bridgeton Pike and Jackson Road. Quints 516 and 2816 provided manpower for RIC and overhaul. Crews quickly knocked down all active fire with two 1 3/4″ hand lines and were able to re open Route 45 in less than 40 minutes. Crews operated on scene for approximately one hour, assisting with investigation and overhaul, and there were no fire fighter injuries reported.
The fire remains under investigation by the Mantua Township Fire Marshal’s Office and Gloucester County Fire Marshal’s Office.
