On Friday, September 7, 2018 at 2258 hours members of the Mantua Township Fire District were dispatched to the area of 312 Jessup Mill Road for a motor vehicle crash with fire. Companies were just clearing another assignment on Bridgeton Pike and quickly responded to the incident. Chief 2201 arrived and found a vehicle overturned with engine compartment fire. Squad Company 2218 arrived as the first due company, and were detailed to stretch the front bumper line to extinguish the active fire.
Crews found that the vehicle was unoccupied, and the operator fled from the crash. The fire was quickly contained and the scene was turned over to Mantua Township Police for investigation. Crews stood by on scene to assist with lightning, as well as, handle highway hazards. Once the debris was cleared and the vehicle was removed, the company was released by police. No further action taken.
